Delivering solar power across UK estate
SEEIT is rolling out solar photovoltaic panels across the UK’s largest supermarket chain, Tesco, in order to provide clean energy for the Tesco stores and to help Tesco meet its goals on environmental sustainability. SEEIT has signed a framework programme with Tesco and the initial batch of solar projects is around 1 megawatt of a first phase of 5 megawatts with additional solar projects scheduled under the framework agreement.
Tesco enters into a Power Purchase Agreement with SEEIT for each individual site. SEEIT is responsible for the installation, ownership, operation and maintenance of each project. SEEIT has partnered with Kingspan to provide a complete design, build, finance, operate and maintenance solution for Tesco, with Kingspan being the project Engineering, Operation and Construction contractor as well as the Operation and Maintenance contractor. Alongside manufacturing and supplying high performance building envelope and renewable energy solutions, Kingspan is a leading engineering, procurement and construction contractor with a strong solar rooftop track record in the UK.
The projects fit SEEIT’s investment thesis by bringing competitively priced clean energy directly to the point of use. Supermarkets are a great sector for installing solar photovoltaic panels given their large roof spaces which can act as generators of clean decentralised energy.
